Naloxone for Texans
The Texas A&M University Health Science Center Opioid Task Force (TAMU OTF) supports research, education, service, and policy to address the opioid crisis and reduce the burden on this life threatening but pervasive and treatable condition on the people of Texas. The TAMU OTF promotes coordinated, informed approaches to address Opioid Use Disorder and prevent opioid overdoses. TAMU OTF has reach across the State of Texas and is actively supporting education, training, distribution of Naloxone rescue kits to combat the opioid crisis.
TAMU OTF has established strong partnerships across the state. Our partners include: High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Overdose Response Strategy (ORS), Texas Health Institute (THI), Texas A&M Health Rural Engagement Program, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, Texas A&M AgriLife, and Prevention Resource Centers (PRCs).
Naloxone administration reverses the effects of an Opioid Overdose (OD).
Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) is an effective treatment for OUD and maintains recovery.
